Thanks Andy. I was half expecting today that after Belgium the UK would be next in the slowly expanding wave of books spreading over the globe...

I can happily announce that my copy of Ed's awesome book has made it safely to the USA. It is truly a beautiful book Ed. I really like how you incorporated pictures of John Glenn, Charlie Duke and other astronauts with YOUR artwork. Nice job with the packaging as well.

Thanks so much, Marcy

Ed,

I can confirm arrival here in Dyer, Indiana today with the mail just a few short moments ago. I'm reading it on a very cold and icy Northwest Indiana day - and I have to say, it warms one's heart. What a wonderful book! Thank you so much for organizing.

That would be an idea, as the book is light and in a nice size, curious to see the first flown "Space Art" book on collectSPACE.com

Ed my copy arrived in Atlanta yesterday in perfect condition thanks to the excellent packaging. Thank you. The first pieces of the Mercury astronauts are beautiful. The likenesses of Shepard, Grissom and Schirra are astounding and they just jump off the page. What terrific skill.

Kudos Ed!

Number 28/50 found it's way to California today. The book is very nicely done. The artwork is represented very well. I also enjoyed reading the stories behind some of the paintings very much.

Thanks Ed!

Oh, Ed! It's AWESOME. Utterly MAGNIFICENT!! The colors, the clarity, the detail, the dedication (oh gosh, completely unbelievable)... Ed, this is truly a MASTERPIECE. And beyond that, I'm totally speechless.

Congratulations, and THANK YOU.

When I mentioned that a copy had arrived at the launch site I was being a bit dramatic. Actually copy 50/50 (my request) is at home about 12 miles west of Pad 39.

Ed having seen many of these images in posts on cS over the years I was familiar with your work. But the book is awesome! Your attention to detail is way above what I seem to be able to accomplish.

This book will have a place of honor among my other "space books."

(and I'll emial you next year - I DO have an idea for a collaboration. I've just got to work out the logistics.)

your humbled fellow artist,
Tim

Thanks to my international friends for all the kind words about my book. I didn't think it would have such an impact. Reading all the comments makes me feel warm all over. For me this is a great way to end a very good year.

And Tim, I can't wait to hear what you have in mind...

This year was already a good one for me personally, but it ended a bit surrealistically: I was asked this week to become the new artist for one of the top comic series here in The Netherlands.

The series is called "Storm" and is a science-fiction tale that was painted for many years by British artist Don Lawrence, whom I admired very much. Lawrence passed away a few years ago and a new team of two artist took over, continuing the comic together with the man who wrote the stories for all these years. Now they are forming
a second team and the editor of the series asked me to paint the pages that would be pencilled by another wellknown Dutch artist! I could not believe it when I heard it.

Of course I had serious doubts about this. First, I don't think I am THAT good. But
more importantly, it would mean more work than I can imagine. If such a comic would be published once a year, that would mean painting 46 pages, each page consisting of at least 10 little paintings. Right now I can do 15-20 paintings a year with some effort. And I probably would not have time for any space paintings anymore.

So I thought about this and then said no. But I was of course flattered that they even considered me and it ended the year even more positive than I had imagined.

Here's to more positive news for everybody in 2009!

Ed buddy -

You ARE that good. They asked because your art proved it to them.

I hope you re-consider but I of course understand that you will make the right decision for you and your family.

Congratulations on the compliment of being asked.

Chris, try: www.storm.nl/

Only in Dutch, sorry! But if you click on 'strips', then select for example 'deel 1' (click on purple letters), you can see a preview.

Ed, Congratulations on the honor of being asked, and on making such a wise choice for us space fans!

As others have already said, you are that good. What is a Storm fan's loss, is of course our great gain! Can't wait to see the next Hengeveld work. Best wishes to you and yours in '09 and beyond. Rich

Ed,

Thanks for the link. "Storm" has been (and latest volumes still are) published in French but apparently not reprinted. Exist in English too - seems to be very limited print runs, thus high prices.

Looking at some neat wallpaper images from the series, I understand why you turned it down.

A little off-topic, but as it was discussed here hopefully Robert will allow it this once. I wanted to show a little test-painting that I made for the Storm-comic. Although I declined the offer, I just wanted to know if I could do it technically. It may look like a nice picture, but for myself I know that I would not be good enough. Back to painting space!
