I received a surprise package from Walt in the mail. Walt has now released "The All American Boys" on CD. All 19 chapters on 22 CD's. Based on what it says on the box, it's a limited edition collection and comes signed and read by Walter Cunningham.

He enclosed a note saying "spread the word". It should be a cool addition to any collection.

The box has an MSRP of $49.99 and if that includes and autograph, it's a good deal for a great book.

Walt Cunningham signed copies of his limited edition audio book at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on May 6:

If you have yet to order it through Amazon or Walt's own website, the Space Shop at KSC had a good supply of signed CDs available.

I've only listened to the first chapter so far, but there's something to be said about listening to Walt read his own memoirs. I have read both print editions, but this is definitely one of those times where the addition of the author's voice (as well as other audio effects) makes for a new and enhanced experience.

It's now my soundtrack for driving around Houston over the next week or so...

I too have been listening to this on and off on various commutes - and I am really enjoying it, particularly as it is unabridged. It is quite a thing to hear an author who has lived these stories recount them... I have enjoyed reading the book, but there is an extra depth given to it when hearing it spoken. And Walt sounds like he is recounting, not just reading, so it is very engaging. I'd really recommend getting a copy.

The All American Boys is now available as an audio book on Audible.com for those that missed out on the CD-ROM version.

And Walt does the narrating, too. It is the same as the CD-ROM version, which has been out of print for awhile. If this is successful, hopefully, more astronauts will narrate their own autobiographies. I know that Charlie Duke and Al Worden are quite interested. Gene Cernan's book is out there. Wally Schirra's and Gene Kranz's books are both on Audible, but they didn't do the narrating and it really loses something.

All times are CT (US)
