Buzz Aldrin has an article in the December 2005 issue of Popular Mechanics. It is titled Road Map to Mars: A Step by Step Plan for Mankind's Next Giant Leap. The plan mostly talks about a "Cycler" craft that makes constant orbits between Mars and the Earth and how manned spacecraft can catch a ride on this Cycler. Buzz explains that this would reduce the amount of fuel needed. The CEV and Mars Lander are launched from Earth and assembled in LEO then fueled for the boost to catch the Cycler from fuels made at a Moon base.

There is an interesting photo of Buzz in the article. He seems to be standing in front of 3 photos on a wall and the photos are from his missions. Near the photos are bookshelves and they have what seems to be some of his books and other collectables.

The cycler concept - which is not a new idea - is Buzz's "pet" project and he seems to be 'pushing' this concept more and more when he gets the chance

I think it does have merit and should be explored in more technical detail - certainly for the Mars ops.

I'll look out for the magazine when it gets over here in UK to my newsagent (usually about 3-4 weeks after US publication).

Thanks for the heads-up on this article.
