The Science Channel tonight presented a program devoted to our exploration of Mars entitled "Mars Rocks - One Year Later. This program recounts the enormous effort that NASA is making to find "fingerprints of life" on Mars.

The extended missions of Spirit and Opportunity are covered in remarkable detail using computer animation that appears to be real. Mars rovers are called "astronauts best friends" because they are preparing the way for astronauts in the future. Current missions of orbiters -Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Odyssey and Mars Express are covered in detail, as are the missions of future Mars explorers - Phoenix, MRO and Mars Science Lab.

The rovers will get bigger as new missions are deployed, allowing them to explore a much larger area for a longer period of time in our search for water and for "fingerprints of life."

I taped this because I had to take a phone call when it was on. However, watching it without sound, it's clear that they have a lot of cool computer graphics. They also spend a lot of time discussing the upcoming missions. It looks interesting.

Note that it is repeated multiple times on Wednesday.

All times are CT (US)
