I have a beautiful canvas signed by Tom Mattingly with a black marker. Now it begins to fade out. How avoid this? Thanks for your help. |

If it is being displayed and subject to sunlight or room light, I'd take it down and store in a dark, cool environment. That should stop any further fading. You can make a high resolution copy and put it in the frame instead. That said, some pens seemingly fade/evaporate even under the best of conditions. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to stop that other than hope the ink stabilizes at a certain point and degradation stops. |

I had a photo with signatures mounted in an "archival" mounting.Special UV glass and mounting paper. It's not lost it's brilliance. It's on the wall, not in the direct sun, but still a sun lit room. |

I agree with Steve. I keep all of my originals in books of archival sleeves to protect them. If I want to display one I make a high res copy. It protects my originals plus it saves me a lot of money since I can buy off the shelf frames, matting, glass, etc. |

The fact that this signature is on canvas makes a difference. On paper items (particularly glossy photos), ink will eventually evaporate away, and there's not much to be done. But canvas can be sprayed with a clear finish that locks the pigments more tightly to the fabric. That might be an option here, too. |

Just curious: any special settings or techniques when creating the hi-res copy? I've got a multi-function printer with scanning capability, but I'd love to hear how folks get the best possible scan. |
