Association of Space Explorers (ASE) release
Association of Space Explorers (ASE) launches AstroNotes

Send the gift of inspiration!

The Association of Space Explorers (ASE) introduces AstroNotes, an opportunity for you to send someone special the gift of inspiration, or an out-of-this-world birthday greeting!

AstroNotes offers a personalized inscription and autograph – a valuable and historic collectible appropriate for any special occasion – from the very few in human history who have viewed the earth from space.

AstroNotes supports ASE's global scientific and education outreach activities, from Near Earth Object (NEO) hazard mitigation to ASE scholarships for students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics; please join ASE in inspiring tomorrow’s explorers, scientists, engineers and innovative thinkers!

The Association of Space Explorers is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) professional and educational organization of over 350 flown astronauts and cosmonauts from 35 nations. Founded in 1985, ASE's mission is to provide a forum for professional dialogue among the individuals who have flown in space; to promote the benefits of space science and exploration; to promote education in science technology, engineering and mathematics; to foster environmental awareness; and to encourage international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space.

AstroNotes arrive in a custom greeting card with a personalized, hand signed inscription and signature from an ASE member astronaut. Your message can also be sent through Twitter to the recipient of your choice.

The astronauts participating in AstroNotes will vary and be added to over time. Each astronaut and cosmonaut participating will only sign a very limited number of cards.

Launching AstroNotes are the following astronauts and cosmonauts: Karol "Bo" Bobko, Scott Carpenter, Walt Cunningham, Owen Garriott, Rusty Schweickart, Franz Viehbock, and Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu.

Thanks for posting this, Robert.

If there is any interest, I can update the individual quotas here (each flier to sign 20 cards only, and obviously, the more well-known folks are going to go fast) for fliers that may be nearing the end of their quotas...

Carpenter and Garriott are working through their 20 cards fairly quickly. I expect them to both be finished signing sometime next week. So if you want a Carpenter or a Garriott... well, don't wait!

Thanks for all of your support on AstroNotes, folks! The guys seem to be having fun signing these, especially since most have been of the graduation/inspiration variety.

Just a quick update:

  • Carpenter will sign 5 more cards and he'll be done.
  • Garriott will be done no later than Thursday, if he has not run out of cards before then.
  • Schweickart still has some cards left, but I don't expect those to last long.

Looking forward to receiving the one my wife ordered for me from Scott. I did point her in the right direction for it of course. Thanks for posting the info on here otherwise I would never have found it. Also led me to buy a Congress poster as well.

Thanks very much!

As expected, Scott has completed signing all of his cards. We will add new fliers every two weeks or so; the selection group will also grow in size, but prudence dictated keeping it simple for the time being.

We always appreciate your feedback, as well – good, bad or otherwise!

Thanks again!

This is a very good idea. Somebody suggested a year or two ago that at autograph-fee events, astronauts could inscribe 5x7s at a big discount, since the low resale value would make it clear that such items aren't going to be quickly resold for a profit. This is basically the same thing. For some of the astronauts the price is 1/3 what they usually charge.

I got one of the last five Scott Carpenter cards as a birthday card for my son.

I placed an order on Friday for three of the Carpenter cards for my kids and their graduation. Is there anyway to tell if you made the cut? I haven't received any communication from the ASE. I got the PayPal bill but I'm not sure? If not, I'd potential switch to one of the other Apollo astronauts if they are still available.

Is there someone at the ASE that I could contact?

Robert - yes, you're good to go, and thank you!

Just as a general note, unless there is a question about or a problem with your AstroNote, we won't send out an acknowledgement of receipt. If the flier's name is on the selectable list when you place your order, you WILL receive an AstroNote from that flier (this guarantee does not apply, however, to the person who sits down and decides they want to order 100 from the same flier, for example).

And of course, feel free to contact us with questions: astronauts@space-explorers.org

Thanks again!

Just received my Scott Carpenter AstroNote.

Absolutely love it, a personalised message to me in his handwriting. Something I'll treasure for ever. Thanks to ASE for offering this opportunity.

I've also received my Moscow Congress 1994 poster from ASE which is a bargain considering how many astronauts have signed it. Many thanks.

Let me add my thanks to the ASE for putting this wonderful program together. I received a Scott Carpenter AstroNote for my birthday -- what a thrill to receive a personalized, handwritten note from one of the original seven!
