Just a thought...

If the Apollo astronauts no longer with us - Wally Schirra, Donn Eisle, Pete Conrad, Jack Swigert, Al Shepard, Jim Irwin, Stu Roosa and Ron Evans - were still with us today, (and were attending shows), what would you speculate their fees would be in the current market?

I would imagine them to be on a par with the current general fees being charged. Perhaps Shepard would be a little more expensive?

Very hard to speculate. Would they want to sign at all, like Schmitt or Armstrong. It would vary by astronaut. As several Apollo astronauts go for 60-150 - Cunningham, Mitchell, Duke, Bean, etc., it might be in that range.

I honestly just don't get the need to ask a question like that. There is no way anyone can answer that with any degree of accuracy.

The companion question is, if these astronauts were alive and signing today, what would it do to the value of the signed items in our collections? How much more money would we have to spend on other things?

The short answer is the same as the astronauts charge today - whatever they feel like charging. There isn't much rhyme or reason to what they charge. Ed Mitchell charges $60, Tom Stafford charges $195 or $250. There isn't any reasonable explanation for that. There isn't some huge demand or value difference between them. It's just that one charges a lot less than the other and makes himself more available to sign things.

Conrad and Irwin are still pretty common autographs except on very specific things so they would be charging the standard moonwalker rate probably - $100-$200 an autograph. Shepard would probably be getting more due to name recognition so you'd be looking at $250 or more for him now. It's not really fair but all the CMPs aren't worth as much as the moonwalkers unless they refuse to sign forever like Anders so they would probably be in the $100 range.

All just guesswork but that's my opinion of what it would be like.
