Any examples of John McKay autographs on the web I can refer someone to look at? I only found one so far - Michael Wright's site. Thanks.

You can find another example of Jack McKay's autograph at this site, along with all the other X-15 pilots, in the 15th album down from the top: "X-15 Rocket Plane and NASA Lifting Body Aircraft".

Thanks! Any thoughts on why such a wide variety of signatures on the "Y"? All three, including Michael Wright's, seem to be very different from each other.

It seems like McKay was all over the map with his signature. He seemed pretty inconsistent from the examples that I have seen.
I've got one in my collection shown here.
There was also (what appears to be) a rubber stamp version of his sig:
