I have found the information and topics on this site priceless in my attempts to build a significant art collection. I first began collecting about two years ago and have acquired some amazing pieces in that short period of time. To date I have the following prints:
  • Moonwalkers
  • Reaching for the Stars
  • In the Beginning
  • Naval Aviation
  • Mercury 7
  • Seagulls
  • Gathering of Eagles 1983-1988, 1991-2007
I am starting this post in hopes of finding other collectors who might have advice on what other pieces might make good additions to my collection. I am still looking for the two remaining years from the Gathering of Eagles series. I welcome anyone that has information on where I might find any of them for sale and I also welcome any questions about my own collection.

Thank you all for participating in what I hope will become a significant list of the best Space and Aviation Art available.

As you may have noticed I am specifically interested in commercially autographed prints.

While I enjoy creating space art, I'm not in the league with those you mention. But I can give you a few names to look for.

Robert McCall did "Starseekers" for the dedication of the Center for Space Education in 1995. There are still a few prints available. I'm sure you're familiar with his fantastic portfolio.

I can also recommend an incredible artist cS' own Ed Hengveld. You can contact him through this site.

It seems like the Naval Aviation prints show up usually every few months at R&R Auction. Note that they always aren't listed under the title of the print, but might be listed as something like "Astronauts - Lithograph."

Also, it appears that Novaspace has one for sale every once in a while too. Even though the one on this page is now sold, keep your eye open for a time when another one appears.

Looks like you have a great grouping of prints started. Keep us all in the loop.

Thank you all for the quick feedback. I will definitely look into the McCall that was mentioned. I have been watching the R&R Auctions to see if any of the Rasmussen prints pop up, but no luck so far. I did call Novaspace but they didn't know of anyone currently selling any of them. An auction ended a couple of days ago on Astro-Auction for Apollo: Navy to the Moon but no one bid on it, personally I think that it was priced a little too high at $3500 with a buy it now of $4000. Any way keep the suggestions rolling and if anyone is interested in selling any of these pieces please contact me.

I'm trying to compile a list of all the different prints that Robert Rasmussen has done over the years. If you know of any not on the list please let me know. Also if you have links to where I can find images or if you have images of any of his prints please post the links or email me the pics. Here are the ones that I know about so far:
  • Blue Angels-I have heard that he did a couple different prints of the Angels.
  • Naval Aviation in Space
  • Apollo: Navy to the Moon
  • Mercury: The Pioneers
  • Naval Aviation: 75th Anniversary Print
  • Midway: Turning Point
I had also heard that he had done a limited print for the Marines but I have not been able to find any information on it. As always if any of you have any of these prints available I am very interested.

I just came across some prints by an artist named Pat Eby. I love his stuff. After searching for more info on his work I saw that farthestreaches.com just sold one of his prints not to long ago. I am now also trying to compile a list of Eby's art. Here is what I know about:
  • Mercury and Beyond
  • Rendezvous
  • America's Pride
I know that he also does aviation art but for now I am only interested in his pieces related to space. I am really wanting to find them signed. If anyone has any leads please let me know.

The Spring auction season isn't all that far away either, so it's quite possible you'll see some of these prints show up at the auctions run by Superior, Swann, Heritage, and Novaspace.

I don't know if you are into posters, but the Association of Space Explorers has autographed posters for each of their meetings. The artwork on some of them is quite good.

I noticed that nobody mentioned the Calle Armstrong print or the Lindbergh print.

The Calle is very nice. The Lindbergh print is pretty cool in my opinion, because I have one and thus I am quite biased, but the jury is honestly mixed on that one.

Thank you for the reply. I'm with you I can't believe that no one else has mentioned those two prints. Both are great examples of commercially signed pieces. The Calle is a nice piece if you like drawings but for me I tend to appreciate things with color. I'm also not exceptionally interested in it because it is only signed by Neil. Don't get me wrong thats great, it's just not what I'm looking for. On the other hand the Lindbergh print is more something that I would be interested in. I'm not a huge fan of the scene but you can't argue that it is extremely rare and multisigned. I think that I would like the print a little more if it some how tied in each of the aviators who signed it. Any way thanks again for the mention, I'll add them to the list.

I've had a few ask about the Apollo poster in my living room -

I got that from cS member Jake Schultz (he only collects REAL) paintings now!

I think he got it at the Reno Air races in 2002(?) when the astronauts where there. (Jake if you are reading this?)

I know I've seen it on the web a while back, but can't remember where it was. I'm pretty sure there was something here in the cS forum since I do remember seeing it before it was given to me.

It says "We should go to the moon" - John F. Kennedy over the picture if that's any help. It has a bunch of autographs (just a copy of course!) below it.

If anyone can find info on it, please post it. I can post a better photo also if needed.

Indeed, that is when they were distributed. Mine was damaged in transit on the way back home.

If I recall correctly, the astronauts were said to have each signed blank cards that were then scanned and assembled to create this multi-signature pre-print, thus there isn't an original signed by them all.

The original art however, was destined for the National Air and Space Museum.

Thanks for the info on the poster but I have had absolutely zero luck finding it anywhere. If anyone can shed some light on the title or anything else that might help narrow the search I would really appreciate it. The only thing that I found in the cS archives was a listing for it in a 2004 Regency Superior auction and the item was withdrawn.

By the way for any who might be interested I just found two other prints by Rasmussen. I don't have any info on them other than the titles so I'm not sure who if anybody signed them. Here are the links:

I just recently came across the contact info for Jay Ashurst, the GOE artist. After discussing it with the head of the aviation department at Auburn I have convinced the school to commission Mr. Ashurst to do a print recognizing some very accomplished past graduates, including a few astronauts, Ken Mattingly, Tom Voss, and a few more whose names escape me right now. Like the GOE prints we're looking at having each person sign the prints, then we will sell them through Auburn to raise money for a scholarship. With the go ahead from Auburn I contacted Mr. Ashurst and began discussing the project to find out his level of interest and of course the cost involved. As of right now everything looks good for the project.

Also, while I was on the phone with him I mentioned my collection and told him which years I'm missing, he informed me that he knows where I can get several of the prints that I need. I think that the only one that he can't get is the 82'.

Anyway long story slightly less long, I'm really only looking for the 82' now and I don't plan on spending spending $5000.00 on it through AA. My fiancée would kill me. We have our wedding coming up Jan. 3, 2009 and we're paying for it ourselves so needless to say I'm on a short spending leash.

For anyone who is interested I do have the contact information for the GOE at Maxwell AFB. Last time I check they had lithographs going back to like 2001 and they are only $150.00 each. This is incredibly cheap considering some of the aviators who have signed it. Take a look at the GOE website and if your interested just let me know and I'll shoot you the order and contact info.

A little more on the poster. On the corner of the painting - "Rick Herter 2001" and at the bottom it says "Sponsored by Rolls Royce" This will get you a little closer.

Per the artist's website, the art is titled "To The Moon".

That particular lot was discussed here; it was withdrawn because it was represented in the catalog as authentically signed, which as described in this thread, was incorrect.

Man thank you guys for the follow up info. It was very useful. I have already sent an email to Mr. Herter and am hoping to hear back from him soon. If any of haven't checked out his website you really ought to browse through the gallery. His aviation art is amazing stuff.

Okay, I believe that I found some info on this print but I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate because I can't find any more info on the print or the artist, anyway this is what I have. I think that the print is titled: "One Man's Lifetime" and was painted by Roland O. Powell. If anyone can verify this information and or point me to other images, or places to purchase, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for mentioning Stokes. I have seen several of his prints and he is a fine artist but most of his signed prints are aviation not space related. Eventually I'm sure that I will expand my collection to include aviation art but for now I'm trying to focus specifically on commercially signed space prints.

I just wanted to give everyone an update. I heard back from Rick Herter the artist of the "We Should Go To The Moon" print. He does still have some available. The original oil was commissioned by Rolls-Royce and given to the Smithsonian for display at the Udvar Hazey Center at Dullus. The painting was unveiled at an Apollo Astronaut reunion dinner a few years ago and the original was signed by several astronauts including Armstrong. Herter produced a special print from the original and 12 Apollo members allowed him to reproduce their signatures on the piece. If anyone is interested in one of these just let me know and I'll give you his contact information.

P.S. He sent me a couple of detailed pictures if anyone would like to see them just let me know.

Hey everyone in my search for art gallery software I came across this site. The interactive 3D modeling is unbelievable. You can explore the entire universe, watch the shuttle launch and track it all the way to the ISS, you can even track Gagarin's original flight. Anyway I thought that some of you might be interested. You will want to use Internet Explorer to view it and it might ask you to download a plugin.

Thank you for the info though I was aware that they had a few left. I currently have my finances tied up in other investments so I unfortunately have to wait for a little while. I'm hoping that they will still have them when I can actually afford to order it. In the mean time I am trying to collect as many detailed pictures of the above prints as possible because I am working on adding an art gallery page to my website.

Thanks to my family and a few of my favorite artists I have added a few new pieces to my collection. The first was thanks to artist Pat Eby, he has been incredibly kind in allowing me to purchase his last signed copy of "Mercury and Beyond", artist Rick Herter for personalizing a copy of "We Should Go to the Moon", and last but certainly not least artist Jay Ashurst, who I will hopefully be meeting sometime after the new year to discuss completing my Gathering of Eagles collection. I would love to hear any updates from you if any new pieces were added to your collections over the holidays. I'm also still searching for the Rasmussen prints so if anyone has any new leads I'm all ears. Thanks again!

Thanks to you I also purchased the Rick Herter print. Who signed the Pat Eby print? I have the Mercury and Beyond print signed by Schirra, Cooper and Carpenter, the Rendezvous Print signed by Schirra, Lovell and Borman and the America's Print signed by Borman, Lovell, Cernan, Aldrin, Bean, Gordon, Mitchell, Scott, Worden, and Duke.

I'm glad that you were able to get one of the "We Should Go to the Moon" prints. I'm sure that you will be happy with it. In regards to your question about the "Mercury and Beyond" print, it is signed by Carpenter, Cooper, Glenn, Schirra, and Shepard. I'm getting the other two space prints that Pat Eby did as well but those are not signed. I would love to get signed copies though if you have any leads or if your interested in selling them. Again Happy New Year!

According to the description, the Rasmussen "Navy to the Moon" was an edition of 200. Actually, it should be an edition of 250. I would think Novaspace would be a bit more accurate in their descriptions.

Ok everyone it has been a long wait for me but I have finally added the "Naval Aviation in Space" print to my collection. I can not tell you how excited I was when the package arrived today. Everything was in pristine order. Now it is a little bit of a higher number than I had hoped to get but I have it and thats what counts. I also recently added another Rasmussen print: Midway-The Turning Point which I previously referenced in this post. It is a beautiful aviation print that is signed by 3 famous WWII naval aviators. I'm curious as to if anyone else has had any good recent additions to their collection, please leave a note. Is anyone hoping to buy any particular items in the NovaSpace auction that is coming up on the 26th? Good hunting everyone.

I have the "In the Beginning" print by Alan Bean in my collection. The one that I have is signed by 20 astronauts. To my knowledge it can be signed by only two others
  • John Young
  • Gene Cernan
If this is incorrect please let me know. I would like to add these to the piece but I'm not sure what the best or easiest way to do that is. I also have "Reaching for the Stars". To my knowledge the following astronauts can still sign this print:
  • John Young
  • Gene Cernan
  • Joe Kerwin
  • Vance Brand
  • Frank Borman
  • Michael Collins
  • Dave Scott
  • Bill Anders
  • Ken Mattingly
  • Harrison Schmitt
If this is incorrect, again please let me know. As mentioned at the beginning of the post I am still very new to collecting and there is a lot that I don't know. I always appreciate advice from more experienced collectors. As a side note I recently came upon a couple of copies of Bean's "Houston We Have a Problem" print. If you are interested in adding one to your collection email me an offer. Thank you again everyone for your input and advice.

I'm still waiting on confirmation about my previous post regarding the additional signatures for "In the Beginning" and "Reaching for the Stars". I'm also looking for information on where I can find and purchase "Lindbergh Arrives Over Paris" and "Apollo: Navy to the Moon". I'm aware of the Apollo print in the upcoming NovaSpace auction and I am hoping to win it but there is already a lot of bidding interest. As for the Lindbergh piece I have never seen one for sale so I don't even know what a reasonable would be. Again if anyone could help I would really appreciate it.
