Can anyone fill me in on Sally Ride's signing practices? If approached, does she sign in person?

I've sent photos for her to autograph a couple of times with her requested donation per signature and had good results. The first time took over two months for the return and the second time took over a month.

From what has been posted on this site she is not very accommodating in person.

You can buy signed copies of her books through her website.

Many moons ago, in Summit, New Jersey (Hart, you remember) she gave a talk and was not very accommodating in person in the hall. I saw her outside before she entered, requested very courteously "Excuse me Dr. Ride...", and got her to sign a unique item. Try to see her before she gets inside the venue.

Something that really surprises me is how cheaply one can purchase books signed by Sally Ride. She was, after all, the first female US Astronaut and one of only 50 or so female space travellers. Just a thought!

That was MANY moons ago, must have been my first Spaceflight article. About two years ago - don't remember why, must have been a science convention - she was back in north Jersey, and seemed brusque (but that might have to do with everyone, all adults, wanting an autograph.) Not sure how she is at her science festivals.

Yes I remember Summit, New Jersey. It was an all girl school. Sally was selling her books and people thought she would sign them.

No, she slipped out the back with me giving chase. She got into a waiting car and left.

The other meeting was at the New Jersey Science teachers Convention. I was there with Hart. At the end of her talk she agreed to sign one item per person. Everything was fine until I asked her to sign a cover for Mike Myer. She tossed it at me and said no covers.

She stayed the next day and set up a booth selling her books. She would sign only books. Yours or books purchased from her.

So that is how come that cover lookes like it was wadded up and bounced off of someone's head.

We attended a Sally Ride Festival and she was a great speaker. Before the event she came out and signed for the guests, and there were lots of guests that day. We took a couple of prints and a copy of To Space and Back. She signed all but she seemed a little rushed and did not chat much at all but again, it was for free and there were lots of people there and it was before her talk and she probably had to stay on schedule.

I just recently received my two sets of signed Mars/Voyage/Third Planet books from Sally Ride's website.

These are a great deal folks! The books are very nicely done and perfect for Elementary through Jr. High aged readers. Having them signed makes for a beautiful gift to any kid interested in space/astronauts. Two thumbs up!

By the way, her site also has a number of good resources for educators and parents who want to encourage kids, especially young girls, to have an interest in science and space.

Dr. Ride also graciously agreed to sign a few of her NASA 8x10's. It was my daughter's FIRST personally inscribed to her. Let me tell you, I've never seen her eyes go so wide in total amazement. Very cool. I have to wonder what kind of spacecraft *she* will be commanding 25 years from now? Hey, maybe she'll give the old man a lift...
