A fellow collectSPACE reader writes:
I recently sent a copy of MOON LANDER to Thomas Kelly for him to sign, thanks to reading messages from others on your site. I just received it in the mail today. It was signed, but there was a note from Joan Kelly, Tom's wife, dated 2/14/02, asking that I pass on the word to collectSPACE that Mr Kelly is quite ill and can no longer honor signing requests.
On edit: On March 23, 2002, Tom Kelly, Grumman chief engineer for the Apollo Lunar Module and author of Moon Lander: How We Developed The Apollo Lunar Module, passed away at his home in Cutchogue. He was 72.

I just got done watching "From the Earth to the Moon." Is Tom Kelly's autograph difficult to find?

I picked this up a few years ago. I have no idea how authentic this is. Additionally, it appears that the Armstrong signature was signed on a label and later affixed on this cover over the addressee's label. I think it's the same person who requested Kelly's autograph because the same typewriter was used for both autographs. To me, the Armstrong signature looks good, regardless of how it was applied to the cover. An interesting piece.

In early 2002 I sent my copy of Moon Lander to Tom Kelly to be signed. A few months went by and then he passed. I thought my book was gone forever, but about a week later it appeared in my mail box, signed. Must have gotten delayed in the mail or something, but it remains one of my favorites.

Mr. Kelly was kind enough to sign my copy of "Moon Lander", along with a very nice inscription regarding my dear uncle who had worked on his team at Grumman "drawing and re-drawing" designs for the LM. There was a lovely note from his wife in the book when it was return to me saying that Tom was determined to sign the books that had been sent to him, despite his (then) poor health. The hand-writing is a little shaky in the inscription, but this man's strength and dedication to completing a job comes through with flying colors. He passed on the following week after I received my book back.
