I have been to the Sands Space History Center several times but never to the outdoor exhibits around LC-26, because the Cape Canaveral Space Force Base was closed for security reasons or weather. For those of you with knowledge on the operations, how hard would it be to section off LC-26 and the outdoor rocket displays that are part of the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum so that this section would be outside of the active base security area? |

It would be nigh impossible to very problematic because LC-26 is located 'inland' about a mile from the South Gate entrance to CCSF Station (not Base). Lots of detours and gated security to be put in place if it were allowed. There was a time in the 60s/early 70s when self-guided drive-thru tours by the public could be made. |

There is no separate entrance or road to be able to sectioned off. But: - Most of the rockets are now in Hangar C
- Two companies - Canaveral Tours and Space Shuttle Experience are able to provide tours to Hangar C, LC-26 and the Lighthouse.

Thanks for the info, I live in Washington state, many miles from the Cape, so I can't really frequent Sands History Center often. But one of these days, I'd sure like to see Hanger C and the outdoor displays. |
