From a public Facebook post by artist Anat Ronen:
...recent mural I did at Johnson Space Center in Houston, in B7 (Crew and Thermal Systems Division). I finished it yesterday [July 31, 2024], 11 days of work in total.

I am beyond grateful to have had this opportunity (if you're wondering how it came about... I was a Google result...). I savored the historical place, I made new friends, and got lost in the details, and escaped the outside world for these sweet 11 days.

I had to be very precise with the designs, this was not a project for artistic license or freedom. Working with Nasa is pretty strict. These window and the latch are based on the real things. Same goes for the astronaut, the ISS and the other two objects as seen through the small windows.

The blue bars are a nod to handrails placed all over the ISS. I had a power conduit on the bottom of the wall that I "converted" to a handrail, and added a couple more for interest. Also I had to work with one remaining copper pipe, out of the three that were there originally. One is better than three but less ideal than none, but I "converted" it to one of the tools they make there for the astronauts.

This is a mural I painted in 2022, at a park in Houston (Webster) that is called Challenger 7, dedicated to the Challenger crew. I was in 9th grade when the Challenger took its last flight, and was deeply affected by it.

Truly honored to have been chosen to honor the crew and their last mission. RIP.

All times are CT (US)
