Apparently Scott Carpenter's Taylor Lake Village house recently sold. Modest and unassuming as seen from the street, the home seems remarkably open. There is a private courtyard in the front but it appears that it doesn't have a fenced backyard. Rather there is a communal area where homeowners can dock their boats. An interesting arrangement. It would appear there is a community swimming pool shaped like a Mercury spacecraft. |

How many space related objects can you spot in the listing photos? First correct answer wins enough parts to assemble their own F-1 engine... oh wait he won't give those away. |

I thought you were kidding, but there's an Apollo CM cookie jar, a big Mercury 7 shower wall tile... what else? |

There's another big Mercury 7 tile over the stove. |

John Glenn's house was directly next door at #203. They specifically picked these lots together, sharing the green space which backs up to the canal. |

There was a pretty extensive discussion on the market listing on X, formerly known as Twitter. A NASA engineer, lovely guy, bought the Sleepy Hollow house from the Carpenters and then sold it to his daughter, keeping it in his family for about 50 years. The next family lovingly maintained the layout of common and private rooms and many of Rene Carpenter's design decisions: the wallpaper preserved in the girls' bathroom. The lava rock fireplace. The wall of glass windows and doors looking up the canal to Taylor Lake, and the divided boys' bedrooms. The inner courtyard was fenced in. But the backyard open, Timber Cove-style on the waterfront as the canal was an extension of the lake. |

In addition to the cookie jar and tiles, an Apollo astronaut print, a children's book about rockets, two astronaut figures, a helmet shaped lamp on a shelf or maybe in front of the lamp, and a Life magazine with the Carpenters on the cover. About the tiles, is that an appliqué or print or actual tile? It does reflect the camera flash in the kitchen. |
