It has now been too many years since I was in Florida (last visit was to witness Cassini/Huygens launch as a participant).

In September I will of course visit Kennedy Space Center, Astronaut Hall of Fame and hopefully many more space-related sites.

What sites do you recommend to someone like myself, interested in spaceflight since 1969 and also amateur astronomer? Any good memorabilia shopping locations? Any good bars or restaurants in Cocoa Beach with a space theme or interesting history?

Please suggest your recommendations!

The old Astronaut Hall of Fame is now part of the Heroes and Legends at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Other places to visit include the American Space Museum in Titusville, the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum at Tico Airport and the Sands Space History Museum at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The U.S. Air Force Space & Missile Museum is a small museum next to SpaceX on the north side of the port. It's a history of the Air Force side launch pads. It's free and open to the public.

It's super cool and totally worth a few hours.

Just to clarify, the museum you are describing is the Air Force Space & Missile Museum's Sands Space History Center (as mentioned by Robin).

The U.S. Air Force Space & Missile Museum is located at Launch Complex 26 and is accessible by the Cape Canaveral Early Space Tour offered as a premium by the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

The comments above already covered space flight and rockets, so for the astronomy side of your interests, the Orlando Science Center has an observatory open for public viewing.

You might also want to check out the other astronomy sites and planetariums in the central Florida area. But be warned: several may be closed/restricted due to damage incurred by hurricane Irma.

It's not space-themed but for a totally awesome casual lunch try Dixie Crossroads in Titusville. Shrimp and hushpuppies galore.

This is not a paid advertisement by the way just a good tip from a "space" friend.

Many thanks for all suggestions. I enjoy planning for this trip and for sure, there will be a lot of space related visits, och nice restaurants on the space coast.

Some sites will be multiple times to feel the atmosphere!

All times are CT (US)
