Lucky enough to visit the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center last week and have a guided tour. What a collection, they have too much (extension required please!). Great to see such historic aircraft and spacecraft including the Enola Gay, Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Concorde with my favourite exhibit being Space Shuttle Discovery. Seeing the Atlantis display at Kennedy Space Center spoils you, but Discovery is a magnificent craft. You get the opportunity to get up close and personal. I didn't touch it! Hidden away too was Apollo 11 command module Columbia, in terms of history for a space fan well. I thought it would be on display at the National Air and Space Museum (Mall). Apparently it has been readied here for a national tour. |

Indeed it is, as discussed here: Destination Moon: Apollo 11' traveling exhibit. |

My favourite at Udvar-Hazy is the Dash 80. |

Discovery and the SR-71 are my favorites as well. I took the family to the "Apollo on the Move" unveiling in March (was a great birthday present to myself) and got some great closeups. | |
