The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii (JCCH) in Honolulu held a dedication ceremony on June 24 for its new Ellison Onizuka Remembrance Collection. The new section of the JCCH historical gallery features photos and information on Onizuka, an astronaut suit from astronaut Fred Haines of Apollo 13, 9-ft model of the Challenger Space Shuttle, and a moon rock. The collection is based upon the Ellison Onizuka Space Center exhibition that was housed at the Kona International Airport. In the coming month, the collection will be expanded to include additional personal items belonging to Ellison Onizuka. The dedication date was chosen to commemorate what would have been Onizuka's 71st birthday. See also the photo gallery and video from KFVE.
