Huntsville Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Wednesday night (Sept. 2) after reports of smoke from one of the buildings, The Huntsville Times reported.
Smoke was seen coming from First Tranquility Base's main building around 8:30 p.m. Officials with the center said a small fire broke out in work area. Huntsville Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire and there were no injuries, center officials said.
Damage to the building has not been determined.
According to WHNT News, officials said it appears the fire happened in the administrative area, which is located next to the outdoor space shuttle Pathfinder display. They say the fire started in a work area.
U.S. Space & Rocket Center spokesperson Tim Hall says the center will open at 9 a.m. Thursday morning. Crews will work overnight at the museum to make sure nothing was damaged by the smoke.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. The fire, which was contained in an area about the size of a closet, is still under investigation and investigators will be on scene until Thursday afternoon.
