The Wheeler Historical Museum in astronaut Alan Bean's hometown of Wheeler, Texas recently dedicated "Tiptoeing on the Ocean of Storms," a statue dedicated to the Apollo 12 moonwalker.

The bronze statue is to be cast by foundry artist Mickey Wells, based on a clay sculpture by Paul Kashuk, Jr. (recent weather conditions prevented the statue from being ready for the March 14 dedication ceremony but the museum states it will be cast when possible).

The Amarillo Globe-News reports that Alan Bean returned to Wheeler, Texas on Wednesday (Sept. 14) for the unveiling of his statue.
Bean returned to his birthplace for the unveiling of an 8.5-foot, 1,300-pound statue — "Tiptoeing on the Oceans of Storms" — that was sculpted by Amarillo's Mickey Wells. The statue stands in front of the 2-year-old Wheeler Historical Museum, just north of the football field.

Wow, great job, not an easy thing to do.

I have a friend who has traveled to several states taking pics of famous people statues (not my thing), but I think Texas is too long a drive. Love that signed photo, very cool. I would've bought one if they had multiples signed.

All times are CT (US)
