My family always drives over to Ocean City, MD for the Columbus Day weekend. Much lower rates, a big classic car show, and usually fine weather. On our last trip the weather was terrible, so for the first time we went into the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum towards the southern end of the boardwalk.I was shocked to find a large room full of space program memorabilia. Most of the items were framed, signed photos of astronauts, mostly inscribed to different people. I was a little amused to see the two photographs below described on one placard as Armstrong and on the other placard as Aldrin. (Yes, they are both the famous photo of Aldrin.) However, there were some amazing items. This display case had a reasonably high fidelity reproduction of Aldrin's lunar EVA suit, an Apollo 16 flown flag, and in the background, a large flag described as carried by Charles Conrad on all four of his missions. There was also a clock carried on Gemini 7: If you're ever in Ocean City, this museum proved not to be as tacky as I'd feared, and the space items made for a nice surprise. |
