I know I can count on cS'ers to know this one!Where, exactly, was NASA HQ during the 1967-69 time period? I know they were in Washington D.C. of course, and that Lunar and Planetary Programs were on the fifth floor, while Administration was on the seventh. But in what building? What was the street address? |

As detailed and illustrated in this "brown bag" presentation by Elizabeth Suckow, archivist, NASA History Division and the Chris Jedrey, executive director of the Office of Headquarters Operations, beginning in late 1961 through 1992, NASA Headquarters was housed in three buildings: Federal Office Building (FOB) 6, FOB-10B and the Reporters Building.FOB-6, located at 400 Maryland Ave. SW, was the first to be occupied. NASA took up residence there in November 1961 but did not have the entire building, just the top three floors. FOB-6 housed the Office of the Administrator, Legislative Affairs, and Public Affairs, among others. FOB-10B, located at 600 Independence Ave. SW, was occupied by NASA as the sole tenant beginning in 1964. It housed the Offices of Manned Space Flight (later the Office of Space Flight), Aeronautics and Space Technology, Applications, and, for a time in the 1960s, the Apollo Program Office. The Reporters Building, located at 300 7th St SW, was occupied by NASA beginning in 1965. It housed support offices such as the History Office, Scientific and Technical Information Office, and HQ Contracts Division, among others. It wasn't until 1987 that an agreement was reached with the General Services Administration to house NASA Headquarters in one building, it's current location. |

I've got a NASA-issued photo showing the locations of their office buildings circa 1983 on my web site.On that page, I've additionally annotated the locations of the buildings. | |
