Seeing the news that there may be a weather delay in the Shuttle landing at KSC (I must be hungry, I almost wrote KFC), I was wondering how to go about seeing a landing if one should ever happen at Edwards. It's probably a 4 hour drive for me, but I have never been there. Things I am curious about are, is there a public viewing area? If so, where is it and how does one get there? Any general info or tips on the subject would be appreciated. |

There used to be a public viewing site on the east shore of Rodgers Dry Lake. Since the landings are not planed to land at Edwards I don't think they will let you on to the lake. They best places to see it off of the base is on Twenty Mule Team Road right off of Highway 58. Unless you are in the area and they divert from KSC to Edwards on landing day there is not enough time to get down from San Jose. If you do want to try take 101 South to the 152 East, 152 East to the 5 South, 5 South to Stockdale highway, Stockdale highway to 58 East to Twenty Mule Team Road. |

Thanks for the advice. I know that timing is the key, getting from here to there if there is enough of advanced notice. |

Dryden has a tour that you can sign up for check their web site for info. It's been a lot of years since I have been on it. There are a lot of static planes all around Edwards AFB on the way in that is a lot of flight history. | |
