Here at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, in preparation for our Space Day event tomorrow, we are finishing the installation of a new Space Shuttle simulator that our visitors will be able to land. More photos when we have it all up and running, but I thought collectSPACE readers might like to have a little preview. More photos can be found on the Museum blog.

Very cool! Similar to the one we have here in Seattle. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I don't think I've ever been able to land it. Of course I don't fly it on the easy mode either.

I had the chance to see the display over the weekend and it was beautiful, far better than the only other one that is in So. California. This unit was a part of a whole forward nose section that came from the now-defunct Space Camp California.

San Diego has done a fantastic job.

Our exhibition fabricators tell me it is a program called "Shuttle Simulator" from a company called Just Flight. We have it on a landing mode, which is a lot of fun.

Caldwell scratching her head while in the CDR seat does not boost my confidence. Neither does the PLT, who seems to be saying, "How the 'ell do I know? The checklist said A, I did A"....

Oh no... well, we'd better retake the photo then and look more confident...

How is that?

Great picture. But is that a Soyuz spacecraft in the front window?

I dunno - a San Diego Brit In Space with a questionable skill set hardly gives me confidence in the future of the space program.

I visited the museum in August and don't recall seeing this exhibit. Wish I'd looked a bit harder.
