Astronauts Buzz Aldrin (left) and Ted Freeman suit up at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston for a Gemini press event on October 30, 1964. Freeman sadly died in an aircraft accident the following day.

What a poignant photo Ed and what a contrast that fate can deliver.

When that photo was taken, the "long term" plans for the Gemini program had Ted Freeman as pilot on Gemini 12 (alongside Tom Stafford) and Buzz Aldrin was Freeman's back-up (alongside Elliot See).

Ed, I enjoy your photos each week, but this one is particularly striking in view of the fates of Aldrin and Freeman.
