Astronaut Wally Schirra is seen going through pre-flight tests inside Mercury spacecraft 16 at Cape Canaveral's Launch Pad 14. His backup Gordon Cooper is observing the test from the bascule on the gantry. The photo was taken in late September 1962, about a week before Mercury-Atlas 8.

Was this before the Sigma 7 artifact was painted on the spacecraft? I don't see it.

The mission emblem was painted just out of sight beyond the hatch (clockwise looking down), as were the others, so it can't be verified with this photo.

The image shows Sigma 7 being hoisted to mate with the Atlas booster. It appears that the logo already present.

My theory is that after Friendship 7, all of the logos were done in the white room in Hangar S. The pad leader did not want anyone except essential personnel in the LC 14 white room.
