Exactly 40 years ago today I stood at the Complex 39 Press Site at KSC, as the first launch attempt for STS-1 was canceled. This photo was taken the night before, standing on the pad perimeter road. Columbia was successfully launched on April 12, 1981.

Beautiful! ...and the all-white paint job looks nice.

Hard to believe it was 40 years ago. Tempus fugit.
