The second Saturn IB (AS-203) is being prepared for launch in July 1966. Purpose of the unmanned mission was an engineering study of liquid hydrogen fuel behavior in the launch vehicle's S-IVB second stage, prior to its use as the third stage of the Saturn V. That first week of July 1966 saw three Saturn launch vehicles standing on the pad at Cape Kennedy at the same time: AS-203 on Pad 37, AS-202 on pad 34 and AS-500F on Pad 39A. |
