A view of Launch Complex 34 in March 1963, with the Blockhouse in the foreground. The fourth Saturn I (SA-4) can be seen in the gantry, undergoing preparations for its March 28 launch. The upper stage of SA-4 ejected 113,560 liters (30,000 gallons) of ballast water in the upper atmosphere for the 'Project Highwater' physics experiment.

Interesting photo Ed, but I believe most of us would have been expecting one related to Apollo 14 as this week is the 50th anniversary this week and the success of this mission saved the future Apollo missions.

Or a photo of Millie Hughes-Fulford perhaps? I don't often use anniversaries or current events for my posts, mainly because everybody does that. Especially on Facebook.

Although I'll admit there are exceptions...

I actually like the surprise factor as opposed to an anniversary photo.

I love the surprise factor too, seeing photos that are less common like this.

I do wish I could click to enlarge though, that would be great!

Fun pic, and I enjoy the "uncertainty factor" of what will be in the Photo of the Week.

I second the motion of it would be nice to be able to enlarge the photo to a full size image. Many is the time that I've really liked what you've posted, only I can't then download a full size image.

I was born the very next day after this launch and I like to think of Project Highwater's water ejection in the atmosphere as Mother Earth's water breaking for me.

All times are CT (US)
