Apollo 13 backup commander John Young participates in lunar surface simulation training in Building 29 at the Manned Spacecraft Center in January 1970. He is strapped to a one-sixth gravity simulator. At that time Building 29 housed the Flight Acceleration Facility centrifuge for human testing of up to 30 Gs. In 1985 it was converted into the Weightless Environment Training Facility (WETF) by including a pool for EVA training. The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory replaced the WETF in 1996.

Ed, that's an awesome training photo. Did all of the prime and backup lunar mission crews use this sim?
Does anyone know if the PLSS is operational or is it only used for simulation weight and support of the 1/6 G structure?

I have seen similar photos of Bean, Lovell, Haise and Duke. Not sure about any of the other flights. There is also a photo of Scott and Irwin in an LRV trainer suspended from the same contraption.

There is also an Apollo 14 training photo of William Pogue pulling a MET-like cart at what sure looks like the same location. Pogue was on the support crew.
