B.R. Schuster, McDonnell Aircraft engineering draftsman, paints the "Faith 7" logo on Mercury spacecraft 20 shortly before Gordon Cooper's Mercury-Atlas 9 mission in May 1963. |

Ed, I know someone will ask the question, so I'll just state that Cece Bibby did not paint this final Mercury spacecraft logo as she left NASA in 1962 and relocated to California. When compiling my book "Faith 7" I did include this photo but like Ed I was never able to discover Mr. Schuster's first name. Does anyone know what it is? |

Colin, we discussed this topic a while back. The Apollo Mission Photos site interestingly lists the draftsman as R.R. Schuster, but that is an equally unproductive internet search. I was unable to locate anyone at Boeing STL who could gain access to any employee lists from 1963. Here is an alternate shot in the white room. |

It looks to me like both photos were taken in Hangar S and not at the pad. |

I don't think the photos were taken in the White Room on LC 14. The spacecraft appears to be sitting on a support fixture, rather than being attached to a booster adapter with a Marman clamp. The curved white line below the insignia shows where the Marman clamp's aerodynamic cover will go. The right edge of the instrument panel can be seen hanging outside of the hatch also. |

The "Faith 7" logo might have been painted in this room in Hangar S. Spacecraft 20 can be seen in the background next to what looks like a corrugated hangar door, which is also seen in the POTW. |

Is the control switch panel hanging by and just forward of Schuster's head part of the spacecraft or part of Hanger S electronics or controls (such as for hanger door operation, lights, fans, etc.)? |

The panel is the right side portion of the spacecraft's instrument panel. It's the panel to the right of the periscope in this image. The two images don't show the rest of the panel, so it could be the entire instrument panel. |

The right section of the control panel is hanging above the hatchway the same way as we see here with Schirra in Sigma 7, also in Hangar S. This section was designed to be removable to ease spacecraft entry and exit. (The sign below the hatchway says, "Empty pockets before entering capsule.") |

I've looked vastly. Can't find a thing other than B.R. |
