Half a century ago this week, the Apollo 11 crew inspected emergency routes at Launch Complex 39A, where their Saturn 5 launch vehicle resided since May 20. The photo shows Armstrong, Collins and Aldrin walking across the deck of the Mobile Launcher, accompanied by test supervisor Bill Schick. The business end of AS-506 can be seen in the background.

What an interesting picture, Ed. It would be fascinating to know what thoughts were going through their minds during this "tour."

The date was June 10. The backup crew was there also.

Is there a fourth person in the photo behind the test supervisor? I see an extra foot and shadow.

All times are CT (US)
