Photo of the eclipse of the sun, taken from the Apollo 12 spacecraft during its journey home from the moon on November 23, 1969. The view was created when the Earth moved directly between the sun and the Apollo 12 spacecraft.

Great shot. At least they didn't have any worries about clouds obscuring the view.

Beautiful, I believe it is also known as the 'Diamond Ring' shot.

Beautiful photo Ed, very topical this week. Do you know which astronaut took it?

No, I don't. Perhaps the transcripts contain a clue.

When I interviewed Alan Bean about the eclipse last month, he recalled that this and other shots were taken using the 16mm camera, as they hadn't reserved any color film for their Hasselblad. NASA's caption reflects this too:
This photograph of the eclipse of the sun was taken with a 16mm motion picture camera from the Apollo 12 spacecraft during its trans-Earth journey home from the moon.
Also, according to the PAO commentary transcript, this shot was taken on Nov. 24.

Wonderful image. I used it as the basis for the side buttons on my Space Patches website.

Don Pettit found and shared this black and white Hasselblad shot of the Apollo 12 eclipse (additional frames from this series can be seen here).

Nice memories of Apollo 12 — I'm sure Capt. Bean (if he was operating the 16mm camera for the shot) was glad he didn't "screw the pooch" like he did with the lunar surface TV camera.

The photo looks familiar; perhaps used (rotated/transposed) for the cover of the 1971 Estes model rocketry catalog?
