In the crew quarters of the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building at Cape Kennedy, Gemini 9 astronauts Tom Stafford (right) and Gene Cernan examine detailed photos of the moon transmitted by the Surveyor 1 spacecraft, which had soft-landed on the lunar surface earlier that day at 1:17 a.m. EST on June 2, 1966. Stafford and Cernan had witnessed the launch of Surveyor 1 on May 30. Gemini 9 was launched June 3.

Nice photo Ed. Good to know both were still great friends fifty years later when Gene Cernan wasn't well enough to come to Pontefract for his events but at the last moment arranged for Tom Stafford to step in for him. What wonderful careers they both had.
