Five astronauts pose with a T-38 at NASA's Flight Research Center in California, in December 1975. Left to right are: Deke Slayton, Dave Scott (who was FRC Director at the time), Vance Brand, Alan Bean and Joe Engle.

What a picture: three astronaut groups; one of the original seven Mercury astronauts; one Gemini flight; three Apollo flights including two lunar landings; two Skylab/ASTP flights; two shuttle flights.

Manned spaceflight history in one picture.

I've already spotted my own mistake — make that five shuttle flights — and that doesn't include the ALT flights that Engle flew on Enterprise.

Interesting photograph especially with Deke Slayton standing next to Dave Scott!! Slayton reprimanded Scott and the other two Apollo 15 crew members over the stamp issue and removed them from 'back-up duties'for Apollo 17 but were subsequently (and quite rightly) cleared of any wrong doing!

An excellent photo. The covers issue was more Kraft than Deke. Scott had moved on to be director of Dryden by this time.

Here's my copy of the photo.

I always liked the mustard colored jackets/flight suits the astronauts wore. Around what timeframe were they phased out in the astronaut office?

And in addition to the mustard color on the boys, Vance Brand is wearing a "vanilla" shaded jumpsuit under his mustard jacket. What fashion.

Note that Slayton seems to be the only one wearing shoulder straps at the time -- chute? Is he the one who just flew in on that T-38?

Given that Slayton is also holding a flight helmet (in bag) that is highly likely.
