Astronauts' wives and family members watch the launch of Gemini 3 from a building near Launch Complex 40 on March 23, 1965. Among them are Marge Slayton, Jo Schirra, Pat White, Pat McDivitt, Lurton Scott and Claire Schweickart. |

Very timely with a certain new TV show Ed!If that room is air conditioned, as it appears to be, that's money well spent. |

I would certainly want to view a launch outside, not indoors! |

Good point Ed I overlooked that. But comfort might still be an issue, especially for families, and I think air conditioning was much less widespread in the 60's. |

Since it was March in Florida and not August maybe the A/C wasn't as big a factor.I agree that outdoor viewing is preferred but the elevated viewing location inside the building offers a unique perspective in the early moments of the launch! |

Must have been quite a view. If I recall correctly, LC-40 is only about 2 miles from LC-19. Ed, are there any other photos available from that photo shoot? Thanks! |

Interesting photo. This is from the top of the then just-built Vertical Integration Building (VIB) for Titan, which places it 2.9 miles from complex 19.The VIB was torn down a few years ago, but the building in the background in the corner of the window, the Solid Motor Assembly Building (SMAB) is still standing. |

I believe the top photo in the sequence of three originally appeared in Life magazine from 1965. Nice series and background information. |

This was the mission that Alan Shepard was slotted for and then was grounded with the inner ear troubles. No Louise Shepard in the photo that I can tell. |
