With the end of the Space Shuttle program approaching, I selected a series of photos showing two orbiters in one shot. I will post these in the coming weeks.

The space shuttle Endeavour receives a high-flying salute from its sister ship Columbia, atop NASA's Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, shortly after Endeavour’s landing on October 12, 1994, at Edwards to complete mission STS-68. Columbia was being ferried from the Kennedy Space Center to Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, where it would undergo six months of inspections, modifications, and systems upgrades.

The way the 747 is pitched up, it looks more like an aircraft that has just taken off rather than one that is about to land.

They are doing a flyby for photos. They were still about 50 miles, as the 747 flys, from Palmedale.

Thanks OV-105 for that clarification. I thought the only de-mate device on the west coast was at Edwards.

There was one at Vandenburg AFB and when they mothballed SLC-6 the OPF items went to KSC to make the OMRF into a full OPF. They also got the shuttle transport. The MDD from VAFB did not look like the ones at KSC and DFRF.
