Great photo, Ed.The crew assigned to back up Schirra's Apollo 2 crew was very experienced. It included Tom Stafford as senior pilot and Mike Collins as pilot. |

Cloth protective cap and foot covers - to prevent dirt and hair getting in the spacecraft. |

I believe the original Apollo 2 mission was cancelled before the Apollo fire. The Borman/Stafford/Collins crew was changed to Borman/Collins/Anders and assigned to Apollo 3 in December 1966. Stafford was assigned as backup CDR of the new Apollo 2 mission at that point. |

Schirra's Apollo 2 flight was officially cancelled on December 22, 1966.As Delta 7 mentioned, Borman's crew was then split up, freeing up Tom Stafford to command his own crew. |
