STS-73 payload specialist Fred Leslie is reading a book with the title "I Want to be an Astronaut" during the 16-day USML-2 Spacelab mission in October-November 1995.

Or a Dragon, an Orion, a CST-100 (terrible name) or a Taurus.

Remember guys that when the last Apollo landed, no shuttle orbiter was built and it was two years before the first atmospheric test flights.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

That is a really cool shot! If I were in a position to do what Fred Leslie did, I would love to have a shot just like that as a remembrance of that great adventure.

I can just imagine the sense of pride that Byron Barton, the author and illustrator of "I Want to be an Astronaut", must have felt seeing this photo.

I wonder if he received the flown book or where it is today?

Though very unlikely to ever happen, it would be a tremendous personal thrill to someday see a crew member on the ISS or elsewhere, peering over a computer screen to read collectSPACE...

At about $1,000 to lift it to LEO that's a mighty valuable book.

Fortunately, they were already going that way, so no additional expense for carrying the book.
