Twenty years ago today, Space Shuttle Discovery was launched from the Kennedy Space Center carrying a crew of five (including today’s NASA Administrator) and the the Hubble Space Telescope. The following day the telescope was deployed from Discovery’s payload bay.

The Hubble missions will be the main (positive) subject for which the STS program will be remembered!

Hubble will no doubt be the most successful payload - but don't discount the ISS. It's just starting to become the research facility envisioned.

Hi Ed! Just a beautiful photo! You amaze me all the time.
I agree with both previous posts. The Hubble Telescope changed the way we see the universe!
The images we get to view from the Hubble has become one of the world's greatest accomplishments in the past 30 years.
With the creation of the ISS we will at least continue to have some presence in space once the shuttle stops flying.
It is sad to say that the United States space program is stopping at the end of the year other than sharing rides with the Russians. However, we must still look forward to the future when we travel to Mars and beyond. We owe it to our children. They will become our future explorers and scientists!

No, I didn't take it myself, Tom. This is NASA photo STS031-S-075.
