I have no information at all on this photo, but that didn’t prevent me from posting it. The spacecraft appears to be real (and not only the spacecraft).

Is that the heavenly body simulator? I hear it was state of the art at the time! Although it appears to be spoken for.

During a spacecraft systems and procedures checkout, Al Shepard mistakenly grabs the abort handle, fires the emergency locator signal and cracks his helmet visor on the panel, and thus fails the MPDRIT (Mercury Pilot Distraction and Reaction Interface Test) inserted into the training schedule by Wally Schirra.

"No Gus, It's OK. You take the first flight. I'm going to hang out here for a while, I'll catch up with you and John later. "

Little known fact, Shepard had the first flight, but...

Sometimes these photos look like they were shot yesterday. But having the lady in the swimsuit really stamps a date on it.

I promise not to make any kind of crass comment about the "protection" wrapping on the Freudian symbol that the rocket represents. (Whew...hard to clean that up for the censors!)

Who needs information?! However, perhaps the female is Miss Florida, 1961. This appears to be a pre-flight photo judging by the fresh look of the Freedom 7 lettering. Weren't the names applied after the spacecraft arrived at the Cape? If all that is true, then the photo was taken at the Cape hence my theory. Do you have any more in the series, Ed? If so, a week 281.5 would be fine - just for research purposes of course.

I also have this photo in my files. The lady's name does not appear, but the date is June 1961.

Miss Florida, 1961, was Sherry Grimes.

It does appear that the woman is wearing a wedding ring - or at least she has a ring on her left hand. (Why do middle aged married guys notice things like that?) So maybe Miss Florida is a red herring, so to speak.

Maybe it's my eyes, but I don't think she looks much like the picture of Sherry Grimes posted by Robert. Some red herring though.

Is there a way to spray very cold water on this thread?

In case folks in Washington are wondering how to stir interest in space, that's the way to go! - at least for half the population.

Well, I think we have a "Don't ask, don't tell policy" around here...

If we're willing to expand the topic to "swimsuit missile photos," then I'd like to submit
