Buzz Aldrin takes a closeup picture of himself during revolution 14 of the Gemini-12 mission, as he begins his EVA on November 12, 1966. Thanks to Joel Powell for the photo.

Wow - thanks for sharing this unusual picure, Ed!

The reflection of the Sun and Earth on the visor and highlights/shadows of Buzz's face inside the helmet is unique. It reminds me of scenes in "2001: A Space Odyssey". I wonder if Stanley Kubrick saw photos like this before filming.

What's the glare in the upper-right? Does anyone know whether this is the first EVA "self-portrait"?

It's a shame that Mike Collins lost his carmera during Gemini 10. I'm sure that a few classic shots from that flight are gone.

Great shot Ed... thanks for posting!

Speaking of Gemini 10, I understand that Mike Collins lost his EVA camera, but didn't John Young also have one (in the cabin)? Was that one also lost?

I guess I have to ask why what appears to be plastic pen caps in his right shoulder pocket aren't melting in the hot sun?

That's not the sun, it's stage lights in "Hollywood." Everyone knows that....

Perhaps because Armstrong didn't do a Gemini EVA?

All times are CT (US)
