A contemplative Neil Armstrong is seen in the Lunar Receiving Laboratory a few days after the Apollo 11 mission.

Almost looks like he's posing for a coin! (Compare to a US 10-cent piece.)

Interesting shot. I wonder if he's contemplating on what paths his walk upon the moon will take him. He has just joined one elite fraternity and begun another.

It IS an interesting shot. You can certainly see that a lot it going on in there, and you sure would like to know what it was, wouldn't you? (I would.) But, as we all know, Neil doesn't believe in sharing his feelings (and, somewhat less stringently so, his thoughts). That's certainly his right, but our loss. Thanks for the photo, Ed. It sure set off a lot of thoughts in THIS guy's head.

As it was taken in the LRL, it could be anything from watching technicians open rock boxes, to reading an eye chart, to preparing to say "aahhhhh" for a medical exam.

The shot allows us to imagine context because of the 39+ year history since it was taken.

I'd love to see another shot from farther away that would also provide context.

Thanks Ed for sharing.

I would imagine the sense of anti climax would have been incredible.
