This scene was photographed when the NASA 747 carrier aircraft and six T-38 aircraft flew over the Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise after it had landed at Edwards Air Force Base following a 5-minute 34-second free flight during the Shuttle Approach and Landing Tests (ALT) on September 23, 1977.

Lovely photo. Was that Haise/Fullerton or Engle/Truly?

This was the final tail-cone-on flight by Haise and Fulerton.

It is hard to believe that this already happened more than thirty years ago. To me it seems like yesterday.
Well ... I must be getting old.

Great picture by the way...

And we're still using that technology today with remarkable results.

....just over 5 years and 3 weeks before I was born. Geez, you people are OLD!

The Shuttle sure looks different without all the black trim around the windows and RCS.

Hey! Thanks for the reminder. I was 11 at the time!

- and I don't recall anything about it (not sure the media even covered it).

Oh, they did alright! I have a lot of newspaper and magazine articles from 1977. The sight of the combined 747/Shuttle made quite an impression. And I remember hurrying home after a vacation in Germany because I wanted to catch the first free flight on the evening news (made it just in time).

Ed, yes BUT you live in the Netherlands! (Switzerland's a dump.)

I was there for A11 but I cannot recall if it's a real memory or a "recontructed" one based on what I've been told, although I remember being told the sentence "wake up, it's important" (it was in the middle of night, and was not yet 3!).

As for the shuttle ALT, my memory is just blank... As for the paper clippings, apparently we lived the same life! (although I haven't kept mine).

Wow I'm WAY younger than Pierre-Yves.

This happened 6 days after my 21st birthday. Also 1 year and 6 days after Enterprise was introduced to the world.

Great shot Ed! Thanks for sharing as always.

Not to mention the T-38s, which are nearly 50-year old technology.
