Apollo 9 commander Jim McDivitt looks up through the rendezvous window of the LM Spider during the docking with CSM Gumdrop in March 1969. The photo was made by Rusty Schweickart, who performed the first manned test flight of the LM with McDivitt, while Dave Scott piloted Gumdrop.

Is this definitely a photo because I have never seen it anywhere else, could it be a screen capture from 16mm film?

This is a Hasselblad image and the number is AS09-24-3665. This is the best of several in this series.

Great image - looks more like a Rembrandt than a photo. A good one to try painting, Ed?

Oh, I wouldn't compare myself to Rembrandt. Well, now that you mention it...

Oh, why not set the bar high?

I can just imagine the above image, painted in a Rembrandt-esque style such as this painting would be an incredible end result (and interesting challenge!).

Something interesting, I believe...

Anyone who has on old VHS tape set of the Tom Hanks "From The Earth To The Moon" miniseries will note that this photo is on the tape case, formed from the spine of each tape when they are in order. I've always thought it has a painting-like quality to it.

Great picture! The human side of space exploration. Other pictures of the same kind, for example:

This picture gives you a good impression what is looked like when the astronauts stood fully suited inside the LM for the landing.

Wasn't that the only time in the Apollo program in which the LM was the "active" spacecraft while linking up with the CSM?

I got the Tom Hanks signature DVD set today, the shot is very similar but it is of one of the actors I believe.

All times are CT (US)
