Astronauts John Glenn (left) and Scott Carpenter pose for a picture outside the press headquarters at Cape Canaveral following the Mercury-Atlas 5 launch on November 29, 1961. At the press conference it was announced that Glenn was selected as the prime pilot for the MA-6 flight, with Carpenter as his backup. Ed Hengeveld |

Ed, this helps me enormously with dating a photograph I have. The two Project Mercury astronauts are posing with nearly identical expressions (confidence, pride) in front of a Mercury capsule. It must have been taken the same day! |

That's a cool picture. Carpenter looks so suave he should be in one of those double-naught spy movies...! Thanks for sharing that picture. My hard drive doesn't thank you, but I sure do. jodie |
