Astronauts and cars... a great combination! Here is Gus Grissom in a Corvette, the very image of the right stuff.

Ed, do you have a photo identification number for this image?

And any idea what year that photo was taken?

Great photo of Gus. You don't see a lot of photos of him "in his element" outside of space training and space flight.

Sorry, I don't have any info on this photo. Don't know the ID-number or the year... My guess is sometime after Gemini 3.

It appears that Gus is driving a 1965 Corvette Stingray. This supports your guess that the photo was taken at about the time of Gemini 3.

That is a brilliant photo Ed.... Gus looks truly happy and the photo seems to me to be a candid rather than a pre-planned shot.

Awesome photo Ed, I really like this one.

Do you by chance have it in high res? If so, would you be willing to share it.

Mark, I have no idea, but for some reason it looks to me like the car is in a cars-for-sale lot...

Any Vette guys out there? It looks like a '63 split window to me, but I'm certainly no expert.

I am no 'Vette expert, but it looks to me like Gus is driving a 1965 Corvette Stingray. I stopped Googling when I got to the 1965 photo, so I don't know if the same features showed up in later models, but they did not appear in earlier models that I saw photos of.
