To continue in the category of attractive females, here is the view the Apollo-12 astronauts saw when they returned to earth in November 1969 after the second lunar landing. In the background is the Mobile Quarantine Facility with the crew inside being offloaded from the recovery ship USS Hornet.

Somehow it seems appropriate that this would be the Apollo 12 crew's return.

Yet another great image Ed! This brings to mind an earlier crew return photo from Apollo 8.

Are there other Apollo Hula girls in your archive?

IIRC, the little cruise book produced by the crew of USS Yorktown that covered her Apollo 8 deployment (and her cruise around the Horn to join the Atlantic Fleet in 1969) included one or two hula-girl shots from the return to Pearl Harbor after the recovery deployment. No astronauts getting floral garlands (I use that term to avoid an awkward pun), since I seem to recall think the astronauts had been flown off the carrier some time before, but still Apollo-related. I'd scan and share, but mine's a middling-quality photocopy version, so the pics ain't all that hot (in quality or in content -- at least so far as I'm concerned, but since I'm not a guy my comments on content may not count for as much).

The last two months of 1968 was very interesting for Yorktown -- the ship went out and portrayed a Japanese CV for "Tora! Tora! Tora!", then came back to Pearl, offloaded the Hollywood stuff, got her deck markings repainted, and went out and got ready for Apollo 8.

Jodie, for most guys, we'll take whatever we can get.

I like these photos from the Apollo 10 mission, especially the one with Gene Cernan.

Shouldn't think Gene got too friendly with the woman, her husband is standing there in the white suit, lol.

Ed, a quick question, do you have many shots from Apollo 17 magazine TT (163)? Just wondering as I know there are over 70 shots on there of the Apollo 17 crew on the way home, but I think I have only seen about 3 or 4 of them. Was the magazine sunstruck or something ?

Many thanks....Adam

Notice that he's not smiling, however...

IIRC he was some sort of ambassador or senator, if he can't smile when he has a moon crew with him he never will !

Adam, magazine AS17-162 has a lot of excellent IVA shots of the crew during translunar coast and AS17-163 was exposed during transearth coast. I have about 10 views from both magazines. I asked Kipp to work on putting the complete magazines online.

Thanks for the info Ed, I look forward to seeing at least a few more shots from those magazines.

Keep up the great work...Adam
