Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, who returned from the International Space Station after 195 days on Sept. 29, was in a car accident Monday (Oct. 17), where he struck a pedestrian with his car.

Roscosmos issued a statement (translated from Russian):

The accident happened on Monday evening in conditions of limited visibility on a poorly lit road outside the pedestrian crossing zone. Oleg Artemyev did not notice the person crossing the road.

The victim Anatoly Uronov is an employee of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. He was hospitalized in Shchyolkovo with fractures.

Artemyev was sober.

Artemyev called doctors to the scene of the accident and provided first aid to the victim.

The Cosmonaut Training Center and Roscosmos will provide the family and the injured with all the necessary assistance.
