I think Joe Kerwin was on the Group 8 selection board. Rhea Seddon makes reference to that in her autobiography.

Many years ago after an astronaut autograph show, Wally Schirra joined a bunch of us in the hotel bar. One of the stories he told was how he and Grissom interviewed Buzz Aldrin. So, Schirra and Grissom were likely on the Group 3 selection board.

Rhea Seddon also wrote in her autobiography that she served on the boards for the NASA 13 and 14 classes before and after STS-40.

Very odd that the entire Gemini 10 crew would be assigned to the Group 5 selection committee in the midst of training for their flight.

Mike Collins said pretty much the same thing in his autobiography "Carrying The Fire."

Gene Cernan noted in "The Last Man on the Moon" that Deke Slayton, Wally Schirra and Al Shepard were on his selection panel (Group 3).

Here is some updated information that I have obtained on which astronauts have served on the selection boards.
  • Group-19/2004: Bob Cabana, Kent Rominger, Mike Bloomfield, Janet Kavandi, Mike Lopez-Alegria, Leland Melvin, Barbara Morgan, Carlos Noriega, Andy Thomas, Peggy Whitson and John Young.

  • Group-20/2009: Peggy Whitson, Steve Lindsey, Ellen Baker, Janet Kavandi, Bob Behnken, Mike Lopez-Alegria, Dominic Gorie, Leland Melvin, Garrett Reisman, Karen Nyberg, Rex Walheim, Dan Tani, Stephanie Wilson and Sunita Williams.

  • Group-21/2013: Janet Kavandi, Bob Behnken, Peggy Whitson, Megan McArthur-Behnken, Mike Fossum, Doug Hurley, Scott Kelly, Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger, Nicole Stott and Stephanie Wilson.

  • Group-22/2017: Chris Cassidy, Karen Nyberg, Reid Wiseman, Kjell Lindgren, Stephanie Wilson, Megan McArthur-Behnken, Mike Hopkins, Shannon Walker and Tim Kopra. Jim Kelly also served on the board but not sure if this is the astronaut or another Jim Kelly??

  • Group-23/2021:Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, Anne McClain, Jessica Meir, Drew Morgan, Karen Nyberg, Sunita Williams and Mike Hopkins. Again, Jim Kelly served on the board but not sure if this is Astronaut Jim Kelly??

  • Group-24/2025: Shannon Walker, Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney are the only names I have so far.
I think there is another Jim Kelly that works at JSC and not sure of which Jim Kelly served on the board?

Anyone know of any other astronauts who might have served on the selection boards?

I do not know if he is a member of the board or was assisting in some other fashion, but when Victor Glover was unable to attend this year's SXSW presentation with his Artemis II crewmates, it was said that it was because he was needed at Johnson Space Center to help select the next class of astronauts (Group 24).

Those that have an interest in autographs, in this topic there is a cover that was autographed by 13 of the 15 astronaut selection board members that chose the 35 Group 8 space shuttle astronauts.

The six astronauts on the board autographed the cover, including Deke Slayton and John Young. Not signing were Glenn Lunney and Duane Ross.

All times are CT (US)
