As my chum Francis French pointed out to me, the Vostok cosmonauts all died in the order in which they flew (which will one day include Tereshkova). |

Forever is a long time... But Cosmonaut Bykovsky's record for the longest solo spaceflight may stand beyond anything we can now imagine. |

Except Tereshkova wasn't chosen with the original group of 20 or so cosmonauts. She and the other women cosmonauts were chosen separately. |

That is splitting hairs. She was one of the pioneer cosmonauts and flew the Vostok 6 mission. I hope she will be the last survivor of Vostok for a long time. I had the privilege of meeting cosmonauts Bykovsky and Tereshkova, and I am saddened by the passing of yet another pioneer. They are few in number now. |

I have visited Star City many times over the years and met all the cosmonauts. It is always sad to see these guys go. Replaced by younger ones. Just a fact of life. Valery Fyodorovich did better than most. |

No it isn't. Tereshkova has her place in history but it's not as part of VVS Group 1. And I don't think this is the right thread for this discussion. |
